MGA × Boston Children’s Museum CreatedBy Festival

MGA was honored to be invited to the Boston Children’s Museum CreatedBy Festival, the museum’s annual celebration of creativity, innovation, and hands-on STEAM learning. Through interactive experiences, the festival encourages children to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) by creating, experimenting, and expressing themselves.

This year, MGA was proud to participate as the only exhibiting organization dedicated to engineering, robotics, and AI education. We brought a variety of interactive experiences to the festival, including our AI Humanoid Robot, Hexapod Robot, Toothbrush Bot, and hands-on circuit experiments.

More importantly, we hoped that every child who visited the MGA booth would have the opportunity to build, think, experiment, and discover through hands-on exploration—and realize that technology is not something distant, but something they can create with their own hands.


When the Robots Came to Life, So Did the Smiles

The stars of the MGA booth were undoubtedly our AI Humanoid Robot and Hexapod Robot.

At first, many children approached with curiosity—and a little hesitation.

“What does this button do?”

“Will the robot really follow my commands?”

With guidance from our instructors, they carefully learned how to use the controller, pressing each button with excitement as they attempted their very first movement.

The moment the AI Humanoid Robot took its first step, waved, turned, and walked in response to their commands, concentrated faces quickly turned into bright smiles.

“It really moved!”

After their first success, the children couldn’t wait to try more.

Forward. Backward. Turn. Wave.

One successful movement led to another as they explored everything the robot could do, building confidence and celebrating every achievement along the way.

The Hexapod Robot brought another level of excitement.

Beyond learning to control its movement, the children’s favorite feature was pressing the launcher button to fire the robot’s soft projectiles. Every successful launch was met with laughter, cheers, and even greater curiosity about robotics and engineering.


Can a Toothbrush Become a Robot?

Besides operating robots, visitors also enjoyed one of our most popular maker activities—the Toothbrush Bot.

Built from simple materials, this tiny robot introduced children to big engineering ideas.

After assembling their robots, children decorated them however they liked. Some became adorable animals, others turned into cartoon characters, and a few even transformed their creations into miniature Battle Bots.

Every robot reflected its young creator’s imagination.

To make the experience even more exciting, we set up a Toothbrush Bot Racing Track.

Once their robots were finished, each young maker placed their creation at the starting line.

“Ready… Go!”

Some robots raced straight ahead.

Some spun in circles.

Others wandered slowly across the track, unexpectedly becoming everyone’s favorite.

But the real learning began after the race.

The children immediately started asking questions.

“Why is that robot faster than mine?”

“Why does mine keep spinning?”

“Did I make mine too heavy?”

Through observation and discussion, they discovered that decorations added more than personality—they also added weight, which directly affected how the robot moved.

Since a Toothbrush Bot moves through an off-center vibrating motor, changes in weight distribution and center of gravity can significantly affect its speed and stability.

The children quickly became young engineers.

Some added extra toothbrushes to improve balance.

Others repositioned decorations to adjust the center of gravity.

Many tested, redesigned, and tested again in search of the best solution.

No one gave them the answer.

Instead, they discovered it themselves—through observation, experimentation, and continuous improvement.

And that is exactly what makes engineering so exciting.


A Circuit Board Connecting Science and Discovery

Another favorite activity at the MGA booth was our hands-on circuit challenge.

Using modular electronic components, children built their very first electrical circuits.

How do you connect the pieces to light a bulb?

How do you make a small fan spin?

They experimented, adjusted, and tried again.

When the light bulb finally lit up or the fan began to spin, cheers erupted around the table.

For many children, it was the first time they truly understood that electricity is something they can see, build, and explore—not just something they read about in textbooks.

Science came alive in their own hands.


Technology Education Begins with Hands-On Exploration

Throughout the CreatedBy Festival, what stood out most wasn’t just the robots—it was the excitement in the children’s eyes.

From listening carefully to trying boldly…

From making mistakes to improving their designs…

From successfully controlling a robot to thinking about how to make it perform even better…

Every hands-on experience brought them one step closer to engineering, technology, and creative problem-solving.

At MGA, we believe that the best STEM education comes from building, experimenting, asking questions, and discovering solutions firsthand.

We are grateful to the Boston Children’s Museum for the opportunity to participate in this incredible event, and to every young maker who visited the MGA booth.

We hope this experience marks the beginning of many exciting journeys into the world of science, engineering, robotics, and innovation.
